Choosing Your 2021 Ford Escape Miles Per Gallon Rating

Ford Escape MPGThe four available motors for the 2021 Ford Escape are a 1.5L, 2.0L, 2.5L hybrid, and 2.5L plug-in hybrid. The hybrids are the best way to emphasize fuel economy, yet all four engines do a good job providing efficient travel.

The lowest fuel economy rating comes from the strongest available engine, which would be the 2.0L EcoBoost®. According to EPA estimates, the 2.0L motor will return a 23 city/31 highway MPG. Sticking with the standard 1.5L EcoBoost® engine and a front-wheel drive setup results in an EPA-estimated 28 city/34 highway MPG.

So, how about the hybrid engines? They're darn impressive. The 2.5L hybrid returns an EPA-estimated 44 city/37 highway MPG in front-wheel drive and 43 city/37 highway MPG in all-wheel drive. The plug-in hybrid motor is similarly efficient yet also allows for some all-electric travel to support the hybrid engine.

2021 Ford Escape Horsepower, Torque, and Transmission Options

Ford Escape Engine SpecsAlong with offering their own fuel economies, each engine of the 2021 Ford Escape delivers its own power output. So, you can choose how feisty your vehicle is on the open road!

The standard 1.5L motor is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and makes 181 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque.

You'll notice an uptick in off-the-line speed with the 2.0L engine, as it makes 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque and is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. These shifters allow you to upshift and downshift on your own whim, creating a more engaging driving experience than your standard automatic.

The 2.5L hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines get their own electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. With 200 total system horsepower in each version of the hybrid, you'll find that they are plenty powerful when you need to make a passing maneuver on a 2-lane road or merge into highway traffic.
