Ford Explorer Trim Levels

Ford Explorer TowingThe Ford Explorer comes in five trim levels:

  • Ford Explorer base trim
  • Explorer XLT
  • Limited
  • Sport
  • Platinum

The base Explorer creates a nice foundation by including many comfort and convenience features. This includes an 8-way power driver's seat with manual lumbar support. You'll also have the SYNC® Voice Recognition Communications and Entertainment System standard on this trim.

From there, every trim adds on a little bit of its own personality. The Sport trim, for example, comes with a sport-tuned suspension that creates an even more dynamic driving experience. The Platinum trim, on the other hand, adds in even more luxury by including a leather-wrapped instrument panel and a black leather-wrapped, heated steering wheel.

Ford Explorer Specs

The Ford Explorer is a play hard, work hard kind of vehicle, so it takes its performance specs seriously. You can play it your way with your choice of three engines:

  • 3.5L V6: 290 horsepower
  • 2.3L EcoBoost® I-4: 280 horsepower
  • 3.5L EcoBoost® V6: 365 horsepower

All three engines come paired with a 6-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission that provides smooth gear shifts that maximize performance and efficiency. However, with a limited manual mode, you're still able to take control over your shift schedules at any time to create the kind of drive you want.

Front wheel drive comes standard, but you can equip your Explorer with Intelligent 4-Wheel Drive (4WD) if you need enhanced handling capabilities. This system is paired with the Terrain Management System™, which allows you to choose between four different drive modes to improve traction and performance.
